Who isn’t eligible to vote?

Citizens who are declared ineligible to vote, or have been barred from voting due to corruption or other illegal acts relating to elections, are not eligible to vote. An Indian citizen cannot register on the electoral rolls.

The election commission will issue a voter slip to confirm the citizen’s place on the voter list once the city has registered as a voter and is eligible to vote. The voter slip can be used as a card. What’s the voting process at the polling station?

  • A polling official will verify your identity and check your voter registration.
  • The official will ink your finger, give the slip to you and sign your name on a register (Form17A).
  • The slip must be presented to the third polling official.
  • Press the button to record your vote opposite the symbol of your choice on EVM; you will hear a sound called “Beep”
  • Look at the slip in the transparent window of your VVPAT machine. Before it is sealed in the VVPAT box, the slip must be visible for seven seconds.
  • If you don’t like any candidate, press NOTA, None the Above. It’s the last button on EVM.

How do I use the EVM to vote?

These are the steps you should know to vote:

  1. After pressing the candidate button on EVM, the red LED light will flash, and the voter must then remove his finger.
  2. After printing the VVPAT slip, it will remain visible for approximately 7 seconds. Then it will be cut and placed in the collection box. A loud beep will indicate that the vote was cast.
  3. If the voter presses the candidate button, it will not cause any harm to EVM.
